ADB Loan for Jharkhand Roads

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Indian Government have signed a $ 200 million loan agreement to upgrade 176 kilometres of State roads in Jharkhand.

The financing for the Jharkhand State roads II project will upgrade existing sections of four State roads to two lane standard and will also support improvements in the design, safety and maintenance of the network.

affairs current magazineBesides upgrading 176 kilometres of roads, the project will help the State develop an international standard road safety master plan for promoting road safety in Jharkhand.

The master plan will enhance the State’s ability to systematically identify, analyse, develop and prioritise critical road safety measures, which will benefit all road users.

Teresa Kho, Country Director of ADB India’s Resident Mission, who signed the agreement on behalf of ADB, said that ADB has been supporting Jharkhand’s goals of improving its road connectivity by providing initial loan for upgrading 311 kilometre of State roads in 2009.

Together, the two projects are rehabilitating 487 kilometres of state highways.
